Room Full Of Walters appears at the Better Book Room on October 30th, 1999 to perform and visit with fans about their second national CD, El Grande (the name taken from a motor home they saw on the road). The crowd wasn't huge, but as you can see, they attract all ages.
El Grande was released on October 26th, and though it's their second CD, it is the first with their new label, Planet Records. The first single "All the Way" is already shooting "all the way" up the charts. It was difficult catching bassist Kurt Starks (left) without a mondo bubblegum-bubble - here with Light 99's Jim Pearson.
The following Friday (Nov 5th) at the Cotillion was the official CD Release Party/Concert. Opening the concert was new Planet label-mates, Mayfair Laundry. Lead singer, Kim Sipus, and the guys charmed the crowd with songs from their new CD, New And Improved (also on Planet Records) - even though they had a bit of a disadvantage opening for hometown favorites.
After the opening set, DJ's from concert sponsors Z91 FM threw El Grande CD's into the crowd... ... and then Shane Friesen, youth pastor at Hope Community Church, won the guitar give-away contest. Way to go, Shane!
and then it was time for the Walters! Kurt took his famous ride on his Italjet Velocifero scooter. These guys came out jamming, and the crowd went wild!
Lead singer, guitarist Jamie Woodson Though this group has had some national success since their first major release, Sleepyhead, they still call Wichita home. Touring has been trimmed down a bit to accomodate family and worship life - which they love!
Lead guitarist Mark Scheltgen, and his "gas can" guitar. The guys also enjoy the exposure and ministry opportunities they receive in secular markets, like co-headlining the past 3 years at Oz Fest, the largest Festival in Kansas.
One of the surprises of the evening was being joined by a 5-piece string ensemble (from the Wichita Symphony), for "Face" from Sleepyhead and "My Oh My" from El Grande. There he goes again!
:-)
Dig that crazy Lego bass.
Drummer Alan Austin These folks obviously had a good time! Can't wait to see 'em again.
