It was a busy day at the Westside Wal-mart on June 16th - Steven Curtis Chapman was coming to town! Light 99 listeners and SCC fans started lining up early, and over a hundred people were in line with an hour yet to go. Light 99's Jim Pearson was on hand to interview Chapman and visited with folks before hand...

....helping people smile and laugh... ...and shaking hands! Light 99 was also broadcasting live from Wal-Mart.

Then the big moment arrived. Multi-award winning CCM artist Steven Curtis Chapman was here! Jim interviewed Chapman live on air from Wal-Mart, and they talked about everything from Chapman's new CD, Speechless, released just yesterday - to the joys and trials of the family life of a very busy artist. Another topic of discussion was Chapman's new book "Speechless: Living In Awe Of God's Disruptive Grace" co-written by Chapman and his pastor/friend, Scotty Smith.

Which leads us to a pleasant surprise in that Smith (in the black sweater vest) also accompanied Chapman for the promo tour. In addition to co-writing the book with Chapman, Smith has co-written songs with Chapman (including the very popular "Lord Of The Dance"), and inspired other songs (including some on this new release). Many other Contemporary Christian artists call Pastor Scotty Smith their mentor, pastor, and friend. The final count was well over 500 people in attendance... ...and the line was handled very professionally and courteously by the folks from Sparrow Records (thanks David, Stephanie, and David), EMI (thanks Stin), and the Anderson Marketing Group (thanks Bing), so that everyone got to meet and greet Chapman and Smith in an hour and a half.

It was no surprise that Chapman attracted the local media... ...and so he took time to visit with local CBS affiliate, KWCH TV-12. And though they tried to keep the line moving (since there were so many there to meet Chapman and so little time), we still squeezed in a few photo ops. l to r: Scotty Smith (pastor/author, Christ Community Church), Jim Pearson (DJ, Light 99), and Steven Curtis Chapman (songwriting/artist/minister extraordinaire).

Then right back to visiting and signing... ...taking extra effort to say to the kids... ...and there were lots of kids.

Time for one more photo op. l to r: Smith, Peasron, yours truly Danl Blackwood (Light 99 web dude.), and Chapman (thanks to Stephanie of Sparrow Records for taking the shot). Then time to pack it up - another fun day for Light 99 and our listeners. Just about everybody I saw was this happy! (Jim with his pretty daughter, Briana)
